You are cordially invited to attend a presentation on the F-35C Carrier Suitability & Ship Trials by CDR Tony "Brick" Wilson, VX-23 F-35 Pax River ITF Test Pilot, at the American Institute of Aeronautics & Astronautics (AIAA) Inaugural PAX River Chapter Event scheduled for 1130 May 5th at the Flight Deck Lounge aboard NAS Patuxent River.
F-35C Carrier Suitability & Ship Trials - In November 2014, the F-35C Lightning II conducted its initial ship trials (DT-I) in preparation for Navy F-35C IOC in 2018.
Learn how VX-23's Pax River ITF prepared for DT-I and flew the F-35's first-ever carrier landings and catapults from the test pilot who led the way, CDR Tony 'Brick' Wilson. He'll take you through the challenges and triumphs associated with this test program and share videos of their testing aboard USS Nimitz (CVN 68). Key takeaways include the outstanding teamwork that resulted in a highly successful tailhook redesign (124/124 Cats& Traps | 0 Unintentional Bolters | 2 Intentional Test Bolters) that yielded the F-35's "3-wire machine" reputation; completion of 100 percent of the threshold test points three days earlier than anticipated; and night ops during DT-I – an unheard of feat since the Navy’s F-4 era.
1130 - Reception with complimentary Chick Fil A lunch and introduction by Major Tucker Hamilton
